Brain Lifting Weights

Psychotherapy

While an eclectic practitioner, my approach centers on Psychodynamic theory. Psychodynamic therapy helps people understand themselves better. We explore past experiences to see how they affect present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Early life shapes who you are and how you function. In sessions, we focus on whatever weighs most heavily on your mind, even if it feels random. I point out patterns and connections between the past and the present. When you understand yourself better, you will find new, healthier ways of living.

Consultation and Supervision

I specialize in the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. With over 85 million Americans identifying as part of this diverse community, it is crucial to provide tailored support that addresses their specific needs while retaining theoretical integrity. I help you recognize the interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors that shape an individual's identity. I embrace a holistic perspective that acknowledges systemic and cultural barriers hindering participation in society.

My Focus

  1. Conceptual Frameworks: Learn and apply social or systemic models of disability over the medical model. Develop creative ways to adapt theoretical models to client's functional strengths.

  2. Legal and Ethical Responsibilities: You become empowered to ensure your clients receive the best services available by learning to navigate the complex legal and ethical landscape of disability rights, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Medicaid services, vocational rehabilitation, and IEPs.

  3. Valid Assessment: Adapted intakes, assessments, and diagnostic conceptualizations to accurately capture the strengths and challenges of individuals with disabilities leading to informed personalized treatment plans.

  4. Lifespan Approach: Understand that disabilities evolve throughout an individual's life, and interventions should adapt accordingly.

By embracing this holistic, competency-based approach, I empower clinicians to help clients overcome barriers and achieve their full potential. Better compliance and participation in treatment help foster a more inclusive society.
